EICR Testing for Landlords and Homeowners in Banbury
If you’re searching for an electrician near you in Banbury for an EICR or landlord electrical certificate, RW Currion Electrical provides professional inspections, clear reports and full certification.
All inspections are carried out by Richard Currion, a fully qualified electrician with over 35 years of experience, Part P registered with NAPIT. Richard regularly carries out EICRs for landlords, letting agents and homeowners across Banbury and surrounding areas.
An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) is a detailed safety check of your property’s electrical installation, including wiring, sockets, switches and the consumer unit. It helps identify faults, safety issues and anything that may no longer meet current regulations.
Whether you need a landlord EICR certificate or want peace of mind for your own home, RW Currion Electrical provides clear reporting, honest advice and reliable service across Banbury and surrounding villages.
Why Is an EICR Important?
Electrical systems naturally wear over time. Cables age, connections loosen, and older consumer units may not meet current safety standards.
An EICR helps to:
• Identify potential fire risks
• Highlight electrical shock hazards
• Check earthing and bonding
• Ensure your installation meets current regulations
• Give you peace of mind
For landlords, an EICR isn’t optional — it’s a legal requirement.

EICR Testing FAQs
What do EICR codes mean?
Issues are classified as:
• C1 – Danger present (requires immediate action)
• C2 – Potentially dangerous (urgent improvement needed)
• C3 – Improvement recommended
C1 and C2 issues will need to be resolved to make the installation safe.
Will my property fail an EICR?
EICR results are recorded as either satisfactory or unsatisfactory, rather than a simple pass or fail.
If C1 or C2 faults are found, the report will be classed as unsatisfactory, and remedial work will be required to make the installation safe. Any issues are clearly explained and quoted for, although C1 (danger present) should not be left and must be made safe as soon as possible.
Do I need to be in for an EICR?
No, as long as we have access to the property and the consumer unit, the inspection can be carried out without you being there.
It’s helpful if you can point out where sockets and key areas are beforehand, as this avoids us having to move belongings to locate them, but it’s not essential.
The electricity will be switched off for several hours during the inspection, so if you usually work from home it’s worth planning ahead.

How Often Do You Need an EICR?
Here’s a simple guide:
• Rental properties – Every 5 years
• Homeowners – Every 10 years is recommended
• Commercial properties – Usually every 5 years
If your property is older, you're looking to renovate, or you’re unsure when it was last checked, it’s worth booking one in.
What Happens During an EICR?
The inspection involves testing circuits and checking the overall condition of your electrical installation to ensure it complies with current wiring regulations.
To carry out the tests safely, the electricity will need to be switched off at certain points during the inspection.
If you work from home, don’t worry — Richard understands how important it is to stay connected. A power bank can be used to keep your router running during testing, so you won’t completely lose internet access.
Depending on the size of the property, the inspection usually takes a few hours.
After the inspection, you’ll receive a clear report explaining:
• Any issues found, with classification codes (C1, C2 or C3)
• Whether the issues are dangerous or advisory
• What, if anything, needs to be corrected
If any remedial work is required, a clear quote can be provided to put things right.
Everything is explained in plain English, so you know exactly where you stand.
